According to Wikipedia, “Grafting or graftage is a horticultural technique whereby tissues of plants are joined so as to continue their growth together. The upper part of the combined plant is called the scion while the lower part is called the rootstock.”
When founding the company during the early days of the Internet (in San Francisco in 1995), we chose this metaphor to illustrate our desire to merge traditional communications best practices (rootstock) with the new medium of the Web (scion). The metaphor continues to serve us well as we meld our experience in traditional techniques with a passion for new technologies and learning paradigms.
